How exactly are the Leafs in salary cap hell right now?
They have what, 30 million dollars free next year? Yes, they need to sign Marner, Matthews, Nylander and blah blah blah but they are just fine right now.
Not that I want or think any of this will happen but what if they up and traded Matthews, Marner, or Nylander before signing them to new deals? Who says they don't trade Kadri, or Reilly, or someone else to relieve cap space?
I do think they will be hard pressed to fit all of these guys in under the cap, but that's next year, not this year. |

Matthews and Marner will be right around 20M total. If you have 11M or so to resign Kapanen, Sparks (small raise), Gardiner and Nylander/Skinner, you're going to fall short of the mark.
Skinner will be more expensive than WN as well. The numbers just don't work. I'm not saying you're in cap hell, you get to resign AM and Marner, that's the important part. However, signing AM, Marner AND Skinner/Nylander doesn't work out mathematically IMO. |

Where to begin. It will cost 30 million dollars to sign marner, Matthews and Nylander. This isn’t a debate either because it will. They will not trade kadri because send to team friendly deal or Reilly because he is literally only good dman u have. You have like 10 contracts up including big three Gardiner and smaller ones. Do you really want 41 million dollars signed to 4 forwards?
Also you would not get much extra if u get skinner. Nylander is good player but every minute his value is dropping. Leafs have to trade him everyone knows it. Don’t expect treasure chest for guy who wants to much money and will have to over pay to keep. |

Yes it does because Hainsey and Gardiner will not be back. Thats 7.25 million right there. AKA nylanders money. Wish people would learn the cap before they talk about it. |

Haha 20 mill for marner and Matthews. Talk about wish for thinking. Matthews gets more then mcdavid. Cap is going up and he will want more. Marner will get 9 maybe 10 if he keeps up this pace

Speak for you self u have 30 -32 million in cap space. Marner and Matthews will cost you 21-23 million. That leaves u under 10 million in cap to sign 8 more players. U only have 13 players signed next year after they resign Matthews and marner. Even if u bring players up to fill voids or sign them to same contract they were it is still at least million a peice. No room for Nylander or skinner or top dman. |

Jeff Skinner has had a hell of a campaign so far for the Sabres and has shown great chemistry with Jack Eichel. There is no denying any of that..However there is also no denying the situation that brought Skinner to Buffalo. Jeff made it clear he wanted to go to free agency on July 1, and because of that the Sabres got Skinner from the basement bargain bin…Has that changed now that he is seeing success on a very dangerous up-and-coming team? Maybe..but no one knows really for certain..
Add to that why Skinner wanted to go to July 1 in the first place. Jeff has made it quite obvious to friends and others over the years he would love to be a Maple Leaf and that matters to him in a major way I am told.
The Maple Leafs of course are in salary cap hell right now…They may want Skinner, but there is truly no realistic way to sign him….UNLESS…William Nylander is moved and prospects return…not putting much stress on the salary cap…Then, in actuality you could trade Nylander for some serious prospects AND Jeff Skinner, who I believe would sign for less in Toronto than Nylander wants and is a better player on top of it…
The Sabres want to keep him of course, but so far that has not looked like a slam dunk. - Eklund
Wouldn't it just be easier to sign him on July 1st and give up nothing in assets? |
